On Sunday Brian and I went for our usual long run on Town lake. We were supposed to do nine miles or so, but because of my foot injury. Andi ran with us. Considering my foot hurt a lot, we had a great run. Later, Brian and Mike went mountain biking while Tara and I went for a day of shopping. We went to a couple of stores outside the mall, then went to Lake Creek to see what was on Sale at Foleys. I had seen Jodi the day before and her mum gave me a %20 off pass for Foleys (thanks! Jodi's mum). Alas, there was nothing at Foleys that I liked. They've been letting me down lately.
There was something going on at the mall yesterday, a band called Click 5 was playing, though the whole time we were there there was no music, just some guy hyping up a crowd of teenage girls and a lot of teenage girls screaming. We spent a good 4 hours shopping before heading to our respective homes. Around 6pm (6 hours since our boys left to go biking) Tara called me to see if I'd heard anything from the boys. 6 hours is a little long for them to be gone. I hadn't heard anything either. Almost an hour later Brian called me to tell me the following "we're alive... everyone's ok, but I'm in a lot of pain". Great. What happened?
Well....
Brian and Mike had gone biking in Georgetown. The terrain is rocky and rugged and quite technical. It's easy to lose the trail there, which is what they did. Many miles in they realized that they were completely lost and in the middle of nowhere. They kept going hoping that they'd eventually come to a road, but they never did. They came upon a camp site but the campers were not there so they kept going. Finally, realizing that it might be better to turn back, they went back to the camp site and this time there were people there. They helped by providing a map and directions/advice on how to get back. It was several miles of trail or they could go by road but either way it would be dark before they got back to the car. Somewhere along the line, Brian fell in to a large cactus patch and ended his day looking like a hedgehog. Eventually, the boys hitched a ride from a nice man with a truck who took them and their bikes back to the car, even though it was in the opposite direction from where he was going. Whoever that man is, thank you for being nice to our boys.
Needless to say that my evening consited of tweezing undreds of cactus needles the approximate size of hairs out of Brian in various places. He looked like he needed some pampering so I made him a yummy dinner of Chicken Kiev and garlic mashed potatoes, followed by some home made Bailey's sugar cookies.
He slept like a baby last night :-)
Sigh.... If ever there were two people who were pefectly suited as friends, it's Brian and Mike. They always get into trouble, get out of it, and have a great story at the end. I'm so glad they are safe and well.
